If you’re a beginner FPV pilot looking to get into the hobby and purchase a ready-to-fly (RTF) drone out of the box, I’ve found your answer, the Eachine Racer 250 FPV Racing Drone.
Eachine Racer 250 Design: 7/10
The design of the Eachine Racer 250 has the same design as many other FPV frames. Built from a carbon fiber frame, you have the ability with this aircraft to crash and not break the frame.
All the components of the aircraft like the battery, built in camera, control board, etc, fit nice and snug in the frame of the aircraft. It also comes with built in headlights which are great for night flying although the plastic surrounding the bulb seems like it would break fairly easily in the event of a crash.
The 2.4 ghz transmitter included in this package has a decent feel but slides around in the hands of the pilot a bit. Another con about the ground station is the FPV monitor included, the buttons are not premium quality but they still do the job. For the design of this aircraft, I am going to rate it a seven out of ten.
Eachine Racer 250 Features: 10/10
Some of the features that I like about the Eachine Racer 250 , it comes ready to fly and by this I mean EVERYTHING you need is included. Extra propellers, FPV setup, transmitter, frame, battery, etc… This is a great package for the pilot looking for a setup that doesn’t require a lot of work. It performs pretty decently although I would recommend downloading OpenPilot GCS and tuning it a bit.
Another great feature is the built in camera because not many quads come with that feature. Although I like the camera, the housing for the lens is pretty flimsy so I’d recommend putting some plastic around that area for a little extra protection.
More great features include a 1500 mAh battery offering about 10-15 mins. of flight time, built in OSD, and head and tail lights for night flying. Range wise, you can get about 1.8 km. with the standard transmitter. For the price this package is at and the features it comes with, I’m giving this quad an eight out of ten.
Eachine Racer 250 Build Quality: 8/10
The build quality of this quadcopter is pretty good considering the frame is made out of a strong carbon fiber. Also great about this quad is the ability to swap out the standard CW 2204 2300 KV motors pretty easily. A con about this quad is the crummy plastic part holding up the FPV monitor which seems like it would break easily.
A nice part about this quad is the circular polarized antenna mounted on the center of the frame which is very flexible. The transmitter’s switches are nice and sturdy allowing the pilot to easily switch between flight modes. I also enjoy the sturdiness of the dampner frame built for holding a different types of action cameras, for instance, a GoPro Hero 4.
Eachine Racer 250 Performance: 7.5/10
The performance of the Eachine Racer is great and what you would expect. It does exactly what you tell it to do and nothing else. This gave me a bit of a let down as I didn’t get as much of an adrenaline rush as I usually would so to fix this, I used OpenPilot to toggle the settings. Also, when you tilt the aircraft, there is some slight lag and you sometimes overcompensate when trying to tilt too much.
Overall, the performance of the aircraft in my opinion would suit the needs of a beginner to intermediate FPV pilot. I really enjoy how the kit was bundled together with everything you need to get flying. For performance, I’m going to give it a 7.5 out of 10.
Eachine Racer 250 Overall: 8.2/10
What really got me on the Eachine Racer 250 Racing Quadcopter was the bang for your buck. You get everything you need to fly which, unlike many other quads, you have to order lots of parts separately. The carbon fiber frame paired with the built in camera and FPV system is in my opinion, the ultimate beginner FPV package and I strongly recommend looking into ordering the kit.
For my overall rating, I’m going to give the Eachine Racer 250 our best rating yet, 8.2/10.
