Are you prepared for the Parrot Bebop quadcopter? An outstanding flyer. Loaded with useful and entertaining features. Built around high-quality hardware, Bebop is one of the most fun and useful FPV quadcopters currently in the market. There’s almost nothing you can’t do with Bebop. It is also very durable and easy to manoeuvre, a good fit for even for beginners. Together with the Skycontroller set, the Parrot Bebop FPV Drone is able to compete with most top budget and performance FPV drones, unlocking its true potential. We at FPV Drone Reviews are glad to take a deeper look into this affordable quadcopter with much to offer.
Parrot Bebop: Durability: 7/10
Such a powerful quadcopter could not lack durability and Parrot does not fail on it. The Bebop Drone is 410g weight, although very light, due to being able to reach medium-high speeds, a strong frame is needed. Made of ABS plastic, heat-resistant, lightweight and impact-resistant (same material as Legos and safety helmets). Also, to assure a strong durability it is reinforced with glass fibre. It is a great choice of material for the price the quad is ranged in, but I would love for Parrot engineers to consider using carbon fibre.
Parrot Bebop: Performance: 6/10
As advertised and expected, the Parrot Bebop FPV Quadcopter indeed is a high performance quad. Using four brushless motors to ensure a high continuous speed of its propellers. Its rotation speed is of 7500 RPM to up to 10500 RPM, able to go up to 13/ms in horizontal flight. Bebop comes with a wide range of sensors to secure a great stability, 3-axes accelerometer, and gyroscope, and magnetometer, one ultrasound sensor with an 8 meters reach, one pressure sensor and a vertical camera to track the speed. Although, when being controlled by phone or tablet WITHOUT the Skycontroller Remote you may notice a decrease on its stability and manoeuvrability. The negative side are the batteries, they only last for 8 to 11 minutes of flight time. Parrot should have increased its flight time using more powerful batteries.
Parrot Bebop: Camera Quality: 9/10
The Parrot Bebop Drone comes with a built-in HD 14MP camera, recording in 1920 x 1080p resolution with 30 frames per second and 3800 x 3188 pixels for photos. Able to see up to 180º degrees, since it does not have a gimbal, the 180º is accomplished due to software. It has a fisheye lens, dust and water splash proof. Produces great photos or videos, with no need to worry about distortion, vibration or light problems. One negative factor of the camera is being a bit exposed which might result in lens scratches if you hit it on an object.
Tablet and Smartphone Control via WiFi with FPV
The FPV Bebop Drone is controlled using a tablet or smartphone. Bebop is able to create its own WiFi hotspot, which you can connect to through an App (available for both iPhone and Android). On the app (Free Flight 3) you can: control Bebop quad, adjust camera angle, record video or take pictures, program auto-pilot flights, upload videos and photos instantly to Youtube and Facebook, among other features. While doing this you have First Person View of the image directly to your mobile device. No need to have your eyes on the quad when flying it, sit down, look to your screen, watch what your drone is watching and control it. It has 8GB of internal memory, a lot of room for your video and photo files.
Automatic Pilot and Return to Home Features
Thanks to a built-in GPS system there are many fun features in this quadcopter. Set a starting point to determine which altitude you want Bebop to automatically fly to when he begins flight. Return to Home, do not be afraid to lose it, Bebop is capable of returning to the point where it began flight. Program an auto-flight, on your phone or tablet choose the waypoints (on a map) you want Bebop to go to and then come back on its own. The negative side is this feature it’s an extra one you have to purchase inside your Free Flight 3 app.
Skycontroller Remote (range increaser and stability and manoeuvrability improver)
This is an extra, or can be bought at discount (compared to being bought separately) in a bundle. A very useful and powerful asset. Do not be mistaken, the Parrot Bebop Skycontroller indeed unlocks the true maximum capabilities of Bebop. Without this remote, the drone only has a maximum distance of 300 meters, using the Skycontroller this range is increased to 2KM! Yes a very big difference. As you can see in the image, you can attach your tablet to the Skycontroller and use the joysticks to control the quadcopter. An amazing add-on which unveils the true power of Bebop, allowing it to compete with even the higher budget quadcopters. A true drone flight experience!
|Camera FPV:||Yes (14MP)|
|Control Distance:||300 meters / 2KM (with Skycontroller)|
|Flight Time:||8 to 11 minutes|
|Return to Home:||Yes|
Parrot Bebop Summary: Pro’s and Con’s
The GOOD: High performance quadcopter able to achieve a considerable fast speed; Built-in camera is very good quality; Packs GPS and other useful features such as Automatic Pilot and Return to Home. Skycontroller boosts drone’s control distance and allows other capabilities.
The BAD: Flight time could be longer. Automatic Pilot is a paid extra on Free Flight 3 app (besides that the app is totally free to use).
