1. FPV Transmitter
The range of FPV racing drones is most constrained by the range of their FPV video transmitters. Most FPV racing drone transmitters have less than 1600m or 1 mile range. Currently, the FPV video transmitter with the greatest claimed range is the AKK X2 at 4000m or 2.5 miles – please note, the AKK X2 requires fitment of a circular polarised antenna to achieve this range (see antenna options HERE). 2. Radio Handset Controller
The second biggest constraint on FPV racing drone range is the radio controller. A typical controller/receiver combination has a range of 2400m or 1.5 miles. 3. Brushless Motors
A lightweight motor that extracts the most thrust from each volt will help you to conserve battery charge during long range flights. 4. Battery Size & Weight…
Increasing the size of a battery will also increase its capacity to store charge, giving your FPV Racing Drone a longer range. However, a larger battery will increase aerodynamic drag and reduce manoeuvrability of your FPV racing drone – if long-range is your only priority it makes most sense to choose a purpose-built long-range FPV drone with a much larger battery than possible for an FPV Racing Drone (more information HERE).
